Overview
This course is facilitated by one of the most practically experienced Australian trainers in height safety relative to the appropriate Australian Standards. It overviews the information necessary for workplaces to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations. It details duties and obligations of staff when working at heights of 2 metres and over. It objectively focuses on issues that need to be addressed by the Australian Standard, the OH&S Act & Regs and the specific safety needs of staff who work at heights.
Objective
To identify the issues and hazards related to working at heights, formulate strategies to address the hazards and ensure that the organization's worksite staff comply with the required practices and procedures to eliminate circumstances that may lead to a workplace accident.

- 15 minute videos relating to 'Working Safely at Heights'
- What constitutes 'height'
- Duties of management and staff under the Act
- Safe use of ladders and scaffolding
- When scaffolding expertise is required
- Use of safety harnesses
- Minimizing risk, injury and illness through correct job safety analysis
- Reporting of accidents and near misses
- Policies, procedures and record keeping
- Induction procedures for new staff members.

Expected learning outcomes
- Understand and apply requirements for a safe work place as defined by the Occupational Health Safety and Welfare Act
- Understand housekeeping and job safety analysis and how they affect hazard identification, management and prevention process
- Understand the importance of having written work safe procedures for all height work
Fees and facilitation
- Courses are facilitated at the workplace at a time convenient to clients
- Duration is about 6 hours (plus meal and convenience breaks)
- Participants are issued with a colour competency based workbook
- We use a Powerpoint presentation & a data projector - duration is about three hours
- The fee for a course is $180.00 per person (+gst) (minimum 6 participants)
- There is a traveling charge for country areas
- Participants are issued with a Certificate of Attainment that will meet the requirements of the OHS&W Act and Regulations and for a safe working environment.
