BREAKING NEWS - Major client nearly hoodwinked
It is worthwhile mentioning that whilst most fire service providers are ethical and support their clients to keep costs down there are some who are predatory in relation to their business practices.
We recently had to quote a client on the replacement of a 4 - 25 kilogram cylinder carbon dioxide suppression system.
We quoted for the replacement of the existing system as was required by the client and appropriate for the plant to be protected.
Another provider new to South Australia also provided a quotation and they insisted that not 4 cylinders be used but 24!
They also insisted on constructing a new shed just to store the excess cylinders plus numerous other requirements.
We were amazed at the audacity and flagrant stupidity of this attempt at massive over supply and a cost that was over 4 times what we had quoted.
The whole situation would have been quite funny if it were not for the seriousness of their ham-fisted and virtually fraudulent business approach.
Naturally we were fully aware of what was required by Australian Standards and FM Global and quoted what the client needed ... not what was merely going to supply the most profit.
Of course we won the job proving that ethical and considerate behaviour towards clients always wins out in the long run. This is precisely why we are gaining and keeping clients and unethical providers are losing them.
... AND EVEN MORE OUTRAGEOUS BEHAVIOUR
We have recently taken over a client who was informed by his previous supplier that a pressure test of all fire extinguishers had to occur on a yearly basis.
This is totally incorrect. AS 1851 - 2005 states that hydrostatic pressure testing occur ONY at intervals of 5 YEARS.
Don't be fooled by disreputable fraudsters even if they have a big brand name. If you don't understand your compliance requirements call us or talk to the S.A. Metro Fire Service.
